Meylan Ramos
Born in Hidalgo, Mexico, Meylan has been advocating since 9 years in Mexico for human and women's rights through a multidisciplinary and intersectional approach. She received training in human rights, LGBT+ diversity, gender equity, cultural management, and NGOs administration and she is currently studying a Bachelor's degree in Art and Cultural Heritage with a specialization in Cultural Management at the Autonomous University of Mexico City. Her advocacy goes beyond various topics specially: gender equality, climate change, mental health, social justice, education and peacebuilding and her work focuses on promoting youth and children participation. She is also the director and founder of the M.A.R.E.A. project (@marea.artistas), which stands for "mujeres artistas revolucionando expresiones artísticas" (women artists revolutionizing artistic expressions), a digital platform showcasing the work of women artists.
She is a women's rights advocate, participating and initiating various initiatives to promote gender equity. She founded a social awareness campaign on gender equity, conducting workshops and talks at school levels, and gave various lectures on street sexual harassment and against gender-based violence. For her commitment to women's rights, she was named Municipal Youth Coordinator of the Mujeres Violeta association, providing legal, psychological, and emotional support to women in situations of violence.
She is also an advocate for youth participation and inclusion in decision-making processes at a local, national and international level. Locally, she served as the President of Education and Culture in the First Youth Advisory Council in the municipality of Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo. Nationally, she was a state and national Coordinator of the 2030 Agenda within the Red mundial de jovenes politicos and she is a promoter of the UN's SDGs as part of the first generation of "Juventudes Transformando México" (Youth Transforming Mexico) initiative. She is also part of the representative committee of U-report Mexico, an initiative led by UNICEF, addressing the concerns of young people about inequalities and social problems, giving voice to thousands of young people in Mexico. Internationally, she advocates for youth mainstreaming as one of the 20 youth participating to the UNICEF Global Youth Council.
